AI is an abbreviation of the term "Artificial Intelligence."
There are many different definitions of AI, and not everyone defines it in the same way. So far, it has been difficult to agree on a single definition of the term.
There can be arguments both for and against any given definition. See two examples further down on this page.
"AI is the ability of a machine to display human-like capabilities such as reasoning, learning, planning and creativity."

Would you define AI in another way? Perhaps a shorter definition:
"The ability of a machine to display human-like intelligence."
Argument AGAINST this definition:
“Intelligence” is a debated concept that can be difficult to define, which makes this definition potentially unclear.
Arguments FOR this definition (compared to the EU’s definition):
It is shorter and easier to remember.
The EU’s definition includes even more concepts that can create ambiguity: “reasoning, learning, planning, and creativity.”
This definition may be suitable in contexts where a short and simple explanation of AI is needed.
